Booragoon paving, about 26 km south of our base
For paving in Booragoon, IBP Paving brings a Landsdale crew about 26 km south. That puts the suburb outside our regular patch, so we take Booragoon work by arrangement and start by asking for the job details: a few photos, the rough area and what you have in mind. With that we can tell you straight away whether it fits our schedule. We relay and replace driveways, lay paths, patios and courtyards in brick and natural stone, install soakwells and pave small commercial areas, drawing on over 20 years of experience and backing every job with a lifetime workmanship warranty.
What the City of Melville allows at the front boundary
Booragoon is where the City of Melville has its offices, and its rules for crossovers and verges are specific enough that we plan them before anything else on a front yard job.
Every crossover needs City approval, and work cannot begin until it is given. There are no application or inspection fees, but the City asks for at least 10 business days. Widths run from a minimum of 3 m to a maximum of 6 m, dropping to 4.5 m where the frontage is 12.5 m or less, and a brick paved crossover still requires a concrete apron. A fixed subsidy of $495 applies to a first crossover or to upgrading bitumen to concrete or brick.
The verge has its own policy. In situ concrete and asphalt are not allowed there except as part of a crossover or City footpath. Pavers are permitted on conditions: they must be trafficable and sit at least 2 m from the edge of any street tree, the City recommends permeable paving, and it encourages owners to keep hard surface to half the verge, crossover included. Pebbles, gravel and other loose aggregates are not permitted. Street trees and their roots must not be damaged, building materials must stay 2.0 m clear of a trunk, and a verge bond applies to building work over $20,000.

For soakwells we confirm the City's current stormwater requirement for your lot at quote stage and size the units from the roof and paving area. Our Perth soakwell requirements page compares the published rules of other councils.
Yellow sand over limestone
Booragoon is likely to be on Spearwood sand, the yellow to light brown sand of the coastal dunes, with Tamala Limestone beneath it. The sand drains quickly and compacts into a firm bed, which suits both clay pavers and heavier natural stone such as limestone. The limestone below is what we plan around. A soakwell hole or a footing can strike rock, which may mean moving the soakwell, choosing a wider and shallower unit or splitting the volume in two. The water table here is generally several metres down and there is no named wetland in the suburb, so groundwater rarely shapes a design. The coast is about 8 km west, so salt is unlikely to affect paver selection.
Established homes and the commercial centre
Westfield Booragoon, once Garden City Shopping Centre, makes the suburb a commercial hub as well as a residential one. The housing era is not well recorded, but the surrounding streets are likely to be established rather than new, so residential paving work here is probably mostly maintenance and renewal: relays of driveways that have settled, sunken patches beside soakwell lids and downpipes, and pavers lifted by roots where garden or street trees have grown into the base. Close to the centre, commercial paving for car parks, forecourts and service yards calls for a deeper base and thicker pavers than a house driveway, and we specify each one for the traffic it will carry.

A name taken from the river
Booragoon carries the Indigenous name for the lower Canning River. About 5,684 people lived here at the 2021 census. Its neighbours Ardross, Alfred Cove, Mount Pleasant, Brentwood and Bateman have no pages of their own on this site, and we quote them on the same terms as Booragoon.
