Brick cladding, supplied and laid
Brick cladding, also sold as brick slips, thin brick, brick tiles or lightweight brick veneer, is a facing of thin fired clay brick glued to a wall that already stands up on its own and then pointed like brickwork. The finished wall looks like laid brick without the weight or cost of full brickwork. It suits front fences and piers, alfresco feature walls, outdoor kitchens and BBQ walls, fireplaces and the street face of a house.
One point of confusion: a "brick veneer" house is a construction type, a full brick skin on a timber or steel frame. That is not what this page is about. Brick slips are a thin face added to a wall you already have.
The Perth businesses that rank for brick cladding are suppliers and product directories. IBP Paving supplies and lays it. We have worked from Landsdale for over 20 years on paving, walls and outdoor areas, and our lifetime workmanship warranty covers the preparation, fixing and pointing.
Thin brick slips: sizes, colours and weight
Slips are real clay brick, either cut from new or recycled bricks or moulded for the job, and ranges come with matching corner pieces so the ends of a wall or pier look like solid brick. Published sizes vary by supplier:
- Mataka, Perth. Guiness, a darker recycled look, and Balmain, a red recycled look, both 240 x 50 x 20 mm, with 110 mm corner returns.
- Aussietecture. Recycled brick slips about 80 mm high, 230 mm long and 30 mm thick, with matching corners.
- Briclad. Brick facings sold pre meshed, which the supplier says can be as thin as 12 to 13 mm.
We can supply and lay a Perth range such as Mataka's, or fix slips you have already bought. Weight matters because the wall carries it. Greenway Systems gives about 25 kg/m² for conventional clay thin brick and about 20 kg/m² for a faux recycled look slip, while Aussietecture's thicker 30 mm slips come in at about 60 kg/m².

Real clay slips or fake brick panels
Search for brick cladding and you will also find faux or imitation brick panels. These are panels fixed to a prepared wall and then given an applied finish. Dura Brick Panels, for example, sells Australian made imitation panels for under $110 per m² supply only and quotes a G1 fire rating and a lifespan of up to 10 years.
Clay slips are a different product: each piece is real fired clay brick, new or recycled. Greenway Systems puts brick panel systems at about 50 kg/m², double a clay slip. If you want the wall to read as real brickwork up close, use real brick.
Where brick slips work around a Perth home
Good candidates are walls that are sound but plain: a rendered or block front fence, driveway piers, an alfresco wall facing the table, an outdoor kitchen bench or a BBQ surround. A recycled look slip on the piers out the front and the alfresco wall out the back ties the house together, and it sits well beside clay brick paving.
Outside is fine. Mataka, Briclad and Real Brick all list their slips for exterior walls, and Real Brick allows adhesive fixing up to 3.5 m high, inside or out. Above 3.5 m the slips need mechanical fixing. On coastal homes in suburbs like City Beach, any hidden fixings should be corrosion resistant.

We found no WA rule specific to brick slips or glued on facings. In the City of Stirling's Heritage Protection Area, which covers most of Mount Lawley, Menora and Inglewood, renovations need a development application, and the City of Bayswater has Character Protection Areas. Check with council before cladding a street facing wall there.
How we install brick slips
- Check the wall. Masonry, concrete or blockwork must be clean, dry and free of oil, sealers or anything else that weakens the bond. Loose paint comes off. A framed wall gets fibre cement sheet outside or Villaboard inside; slips never go on plasterboard. On heavier systems we get an engineer to confirm the wall can carry the load.
- Prime and set out. We prime the surface and set a level line at the base.
- Corners first, bottom up. Starting at the bottom corner with a purpose made corner slip, not two mitred flats, we lay in stretcher bond on a flexible adhesive with a 3 to 4 mm bed, working small areas at a time with spacers for an even 10 mm joint.
- Point the joints. Once the adhesive is dry, outdoor joints are filled with a sand based grout or a 1 cement, 1 lime, 6 sand mortar with additive, piped in with a mortar gun and struck when partly dry. We do not wipe grout across porous slips, because porous brick is hard to clean, and we keep weep paths and movement joints open.
- Seal only if wanted. Sealing is optional. Early efflorescence on new brick is brushed off dry, never washed, and never treated with acid.
After that, pointing is the main thing to watch. If a white bloom keeps returning, there is a water path to find. Our sealing and cleaning service can look after the wall and the paving in front of it together.

What brick cladding costs
We found no published Perth supply and lay range for brick slips, and Mataka does not publish prices, so we quote each wall after measuring it. Wall area, height, how many corners and piers there are, and how much preparation the wall needs all change the price.
For context only, The Quote Yard's indicative 2026 Queensland estimates put adhesive bedded slip systems at $220 to $450 per m² supplied and installed, corner and return slips at $45 to $110 per metre and a feature wall or entry elevation at $6,000 to $22,000. Those figures are for Queensland framed wall systems with backing board, so they are likely to sit above slips glued to an existing masonry wall in Perth. Faux brick panels start under $110 per m² supply only (Dura Brick Panels).

Brick slips, stone cladding or a new wall
Choose brick slips when the wall is sound and you want the look of brick, especially recycled brick. If you would rather a stacked stone or ledgestone face, see stone wall cladding. If you need a new wall anyway, a limestone retaining wall can be the finished face on its own, and a wall that is cracked or leaning needs retaining wall repairs before anything is glued to it. For a feature wall that is part of a new outdoor area, pair it with alfresco paving or our full landscaping and paving service.
