These guides are written by IBP Paving in Landsdale, the same crew that lays the paving and digs the soakwells across Perth's northern suburbs. They exist so you can size a job before you ring anyone, understand what a quote does and does not include, and know what your council expects of your driveway, verge or stormwater before the first paver goes down. Every post carries an author line of IBP Paving, a publish date and an updated date whenever a council fact is re-checked, and we add two new posts a month. If you already know what you need from paving contractors in Perth, skip the reading and request a quote.
Cost guides
Perth paving prices are hard to find because most contractors quote on site and say nothing online. Our cost guides pull together the public figures that do exist and label them as indicative Perth industry ranges, never as our price list, so you can sanity check a quote. The service pages for brick paving, driveway paving and soakwell cost and sizing carry the related figures.

Soakwells and drainage
Every Perth council expects the rain that falls on your roof and paving to stay on your lot, and soakwells are how most homes do it. Our soakwells hub explains the council sizing rules and our stormwater drainage for paved areas page covers drains, falls and trafficable lids. The posts below answer the questions that come up on site.
- What is a soakwell and how does it work in Perth?: the chamber, the sand, the law and the Wanneroo sizing table.
- Why is my soakwell overflowing? Six causes and how to fix each one: silt, blocked gutters, undersizing and the winter water table.
- Concrete vs polypropylene soakwells: which is right for a Perth home?: weight, trafficability, council preferences and lifespan.
- Soakwells in clay, limestone and high water table areas: what works in Perth: sand, limestone, clay and the rules that follow.
- Backyard flooding in Perth: how to stop water pooling on paving and lawn: find the source, fix the falls, add drainage.
- Soakwell maintenance: how often to clean, what to check and what it costs: the autumn checklist.
Materials
Clay brick, concrete, limestone, travertine, granite and sandstone each behave differently under Perth sun, salt air and vehicle loads. A paver that is perfect beside a pool can be wrong on a driveway, and the cheapest paver per square metre is rarely the cheapest once base, cutting and sealing are counted. These guides compare the materials by thickness, finish, heat, slip and sealing so you can match the paver to the area. The brick paving and stone paving pages cover the materials we lay.
- How to choose pavers: thickness, material and finish for every area of a Perth home: driveways, alfrescos, pool surrounds and paths.
Patterns and design
Pattern is not just looks. On a driveway the laying pattern decides how well the pavers interlock under a turning car, and on an alfresco it sets the whole feel of the space. Our pattern pages on herringbone, basketweave and stretcher bond go deep on each one.
- Paving patterns explained: herringbone, basketweave, stretcher bond and more: which pattern suits which area.
Repairs and maintenance
Sinking pavers, lifting edges, moss, efflorescence and the question of whether to seal come up on almost every older Perth driveway. These guides tell you what is normal wear, what needs a tradesperson and what you can do with a hose and a stiff broom. See paving repairs and paving sealing and cleaning for the services.

Council and approvals
Crossovers, soakwell sizing and retaining wall permits are each governed by your local council, and the rules differ from one City to the next and change from year to year. These guides quote the published documents with their dates and tell you when to pick up the phone. Start with council soakwell requirements and retaining wall approvals in WA.
- What is a crossover? Perth council rules, approval and the 50 per cent contribution: who approves it, what materials are allowed, how the contribution works.
