Madeley paving from a crew about 3.5 km away
If you are searching for paving in Madeley, IBP Paving is the closest established contractor: our base is in Landsdale, about 3.5 km to the east. We build brick paved driveways and crossovers, lay limestone and travertine around pools, relay driveways that have settled, and install soakwells sized to the City of Wanneroo's rules. Every job comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty and the benefit of over 20 years working in exactly this sand.
Brick paved crossovers: what the City of Wanneroo specifies
The crossover is the part of a Madeley driveway that sits on City land, between your boundary and the kerb, and the City of Wanneroo controls how it is built. Its design specification allows urban residential crossovers in either concrete or brick paving, and the brick paved option has its own information sheet. We build to it as standard.
- Pavers: minimum 60 mm heavy duty rectangular or square units, new materials only.
- Sand bed 20 to 40 mm thick over a sub-base of at least 100 mm crushed limestone or rock.
- Edge restraints 250 mm wide and at least 80 mm deep, to the City's standard drawing.
- Width at the property line between 3.0 and 6.0 metres, with a positive 2 per cent fall from the top of the kerb to the boundary (a 20 mm rise per metre).
- At least 1.0 metre from the common boundary where neighbours' crossovers adjoin, no closer than 7.5 metres to the property line intersection at a corner, and 1.5 metres from a street tree.
- Where an in-situ concrete footpath of 100 mm or more crosses the verge, it stays, and the crossover is built either side of it.
Council may contribute to the cost of a first crossover if you apply in writing within six months with proof of payment. The City also warns that it will not accept liability for paving bricks in the road reserve that are later damaged by works there, which is one reason we keep the crossover pattern simple and the pavers a stock colour you can match.

Soakwells and runoff on a Madeley block
Behind the crossover, the City's requirement is that rainwater from roofs and paving stays on the lot. Its stormwater information sheet cites a statutory obligation under common law precedents and the Local Government Act 1995, and recommends soakwells, spoon drains or similar catchments to disperse the water. On Madeley's Bassendean sand that is straightforward: the grey sand takes water quickly and the Gnangara Mound water table is well below soakwell depth. We size from the City's capacity table and set units back from footings and fences by at least their own width. The detail is on our City of Wanneroo soakwell requirements page, and soakwells Perth covers how we install them.
East Wanneroo Cell 6, now reaching 25 years
Madeley was market gardens and rural holdings until the East Wanneroo Cell 6 release in 1996. The 2016 census counted 2,274 dwellings, almost all detached houses on their own lots, which makes it a suburb of driveways, double garages and back yards big enough for a pool. The paving laid with those late 1990s and 2000s homes is now 20 to 25 years old and the work follows from that.
Driveway relays lead. The original pavers, often a 60 mm clay or concrete unit in herringbone, are usually fine; the base beneath them is not, so we lift, compact and relay. Pool surrounds are the second regular job, where owners replace dated concrete pavers or coping with travertine or honed limestone that stays cool underfoot. The industrial estate of Wangara on Madeley's northern boundary brings the odd commercial job too: hardstand repairs and kerb reinstatement for workshops and depots.

The Kingsway precinct on Madeley's western edge
Kingsway is not a suburb in its own right but a precinct within Madeley, best known for the Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex that fills the western side. The streets nearest the complex were among the first built after the 1996 release and so carry the oldest paving in Madeley. They are also flat, open and without the bushland edge that some neighbouring suburbs have, so there is no bushfire interface to design around and the paving choice is purely about wear and looks. For the houses here we usually recommend a heavy duty 60 mm paver on the driveway and a lighter 40 mm unit on paths and the patio, which keeps the cost down without compromising the part that carries cars.
