Perth paving prices are hard to pin down because most contractors quote on site and publish nothing. Google even shows a forum module for this search, which means people are asking each other on Facebook and Reddit instead. This guide pulls together the public 2026 figures that do exist, labels every one as an indicative Perth industry range rather than our price list, and explains the parts of a quote that a per square metre number hides. For the materials themselves, start with our brick paving and stone paving pages.

Supply and lay cost per square metre by material
Supply and lay means the pavers, the bedding sand and the labour to lay them on a prepared base. It is the figure most Perth cost guides quote and the one to compare across materials.
| Material | Indicative range | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Concrete pavers | $75 to $110 | Perth Pavers 2026 comparison |
| Liquid limestone (poured, not a paver) | $80 to $130 | Perth Pavers 2026 comparison |
| Limestone pavers | $80 to $160 | Perth Pavers 2026 comparison |
| Clay brick pavers | $130 to $210 | Perth Pavers 2026 comparison |
| Pool pavers, any material | $130 to $180; coping $130 to $220 per lineal metre | National figures, pool paving research |
| Travertine | $185 to $370 | Perth Pavers 2026 comparison |
| All paving, all materials | $63 to $170, typical $105 | whatsthedamage.com.au Perth |

Granite and crazy paving are missing because no Perth guide publishes a clean band for them. Granite has the highest material cost of the stones we lay and crazy paving the highest labour, since every piece is fitted by hand on a mortar bed, so both are quoted per job. Liquid limestone is in the table for comparison only; it is a poured product and not something we lay.
Material only, if you buy the pavers yourself
The material half of the number is public. Atlas Paving's 2026 retail list runs from $37.40 to $66 per square metre including GST, ex yard, for its concrete pavers. Midland Brick's concrete paver ranges are listed at $49 to $94 per square metre, or $363 to $501 a pack. UrbanStone's WA listings show a 400 by 400 by 60 mm pool paver at $49.52 per square metre and a milled black pool paver at $145.89. Subtract the material from the supply and lay band and you have a rough view of the laying share, which is the smaller part for concrete pavers on sand and the larger part for stone on mortar.

What moves the price
- Material and thickness. A 60 mm driveway paver costs more than a 40 mm patio paver in the same range, and thicker or heavier units cost more to lay. A Perth pool owners forum thread made the same point about 20 mm porcelain costing more to lay than 12 mm.
- Base. Perth sand is free draining, so patios and paths are laid on compacted natural sand with a bed of washed yellow paving sand. Driveways need compacted road base under the sand, and Perth Pavers' guide notes about 100 mm of base on the sandy loam of the northern suburbs. More depth means more excavation, more material and more tip loads.
- Access. A bobcat and a truck at the front of the house is cheaper than wheelbarrows down a side path to a rear courtyard. Perth Pavers also lists a travel surcharge, which most contractors apply outside their usual area.
- Cuts and edges. Curves, borders, soldier courses and steps add cutting time and wastage. Concrete haunching or a mortared border on every free edge is part of a proper job, not an extra.
- Job size. Small jobs carry the same set up, delivery and tipping costs as large ones. Airtasker lists a Perth median paving job of about $360, which shows how many small repair jobs sit in the market at a high rate per square metre.
Removal and site preparation
Old pavers, concrete or turf has to be lifted, loaded and tipped before anything new goes down, and no Perth guide publishes a per square metre figure for it. The cost depends on what is there: old pavers lift quickly and some can be reused as base, a concrete slab needs a breaker and heavier tip loads, and turf and garden beds are the cheapest to strip. Ask for removal as its own line on the quote so you can see what the paving itself costs.
Pattern surcharge
Perth Pavers' guide puts the labour uplift for herringbone and other cut heavy patterns at 10 to 15 per cent. That applies to the labour share, not the whole bill, so the effect on the total is smaller. Herringbone at 45 degrees gives the strongest interlock and the most cuts and waste; at 90 degrees it needs fewer cuts and still suits a driveway. Stretcher bond has the fewest cuts and is the economical choice for paths and patios. Our pattern guide and herringbone page go into the detail.
Soakwells and drainage as an add on
Perth councils require the rain that falls on your roof and paving to stay on your lot, so a new paved area often needs a soakwell. The public figures are dated: a 2015 PropertyChat thread quoted $3,500 plus GST for four polypropylene 1500 by 900 units installed, about $875 plus GST each, and an undated strata guide puts retrofit or remediation at $1,000 or more per unit. The real range depends on size, concrete or polypropylene, and whether paving has to come up. Our soakwell cost and sizing page covers it.

Sealing
Sealing is optional on concrete and clay pavers and recommended for porous stone. Perth Pavers' 2026 guide puts sealing only at $5 to $15 per square metre, and a Perth cleaning company's snippet puts cleaning at $3 to $6 and sealing at a further $5 to $10. See our paving sealing and cleaning page.

Worked examples
These multiply the bands above by an area. They exclude removal, road base, pattern uplift and soakwells, so treat them as a starting point, not a quote.
| Job | Material | Indicative total |
|---|---|---|
| 30 m² alfresco | Concrete pavers at $75 to $110 | $2,250 to $3,300 |
| 72 m² area (a Perth Facebook question) | Concrete pavers at $75 to $110 | $5,400 to $7,920 |
| 72 m² area | Limestone pavers at $80 to $160 | $5,760 to $11,520 |
| 72 m² area | Clay brick pavers at $130 to $210 | $9,360 to $15,120 |
| 40 m² pool surround plus 20 m coping | Travertine at $185 to $370; coping $130 to $220 per m | $7,400 to $14,800 plus $2,600 to $4,400 |

The 72 square metre example comes from a question in a Perth tradie group, and the spread between concrete and clay shows why the first thing to settle is the material. A driveway is a different calculation again, with thicker pavers, road base and a council crossover; we work through that in driveway paving cost in Perth.
How to compare paving quotes
The cheapest per square metre quote is often the one that leaves something out. A quote worth comparing itemises:
- Removal of the old surface and tipping.
- Base: the depth and material under the sand, and whether road base is included where cars will drive.
- Bedding sand type. Washed yellow paving sand, not brickies sand, which holds too much clay and never compacts.
- The paver by product name, size and thickness, with wastage allowed.
- Pattern, border course and edge restraint.
- Where the water goes: falls, drains and soakwells.
- Who holds the warranty. With supply and lay from one contractor there is one party accountable; with supply only, the supplier and the installer can point at each other.
Then check the contractor: an ABN, insurance, photos of base preparation rather than only finished work, a plate compactor on site, and reviews. Those were the questions Perth homeowners asked on PropertyChat, and they are the right ones. IBP Paving quotes this way for brick paving and stone across the northern suburbs, with a lifetime workmanship warranty on the base, edges and joints, which on Perth sand is the part that fails.
