Floreat paving by arrangement, about 16 km from Landsdale
Floreat is about 16 km in a straight line from IBP Paving's base in Landsdale, further than the northern suburbs we cover routinely. So we take Floreat work by arrangement, and the first step is always the job details: photos, rough dimensions and what you want built. That lets us confirm whether we can take the job and price it properly before a site visit. We lay brick, travertine and limestone paving, build pool surrounds and alfresco areas, and install driveways, crossovers and soakwells, with over 20 years of experience and a lifetime workmanship warranty behind the work.
Postwar homes, rebuilds and pool surrounds
Floreat's streets were filled mostly in the 1950s and 1960s; Floreat Park Primary School opened in 1951, and the suburb held 2,829 private dwellings at the 2021 census. Houses of that era are often rebuilt or extended, and a rebuild almost always means new paving from the boundary back. A typical scope here is a new driveway and crossover, an alfresco area off the living room and a pool surround with coping. Travertine is a popular choice around pools, and limestone suits the coastal setting. Where an original home stays, its driveway and paths are usually old enough to replace rather than relay.
Crossovers and verges west of Selby Street
Floreat is in the Town of Cambridge. We could not find a Town rule that sizes residential soakwells, so we check the on site retention requirement with the Town on each job and size the soakwells to the roof, the paving and the sand. Our Perth soakwell requirements page compares councils that do publish a figure. The frontage rules we build to are:
- Town approval before any crossover is built or reconstructed, after an officer inspects the site and issues a specification.
- Concrete, clay bricks or another material the Town approves.
- At least 3.0 m wide at the property line and, in the Floreat and City Beach precincts west of Selby Street, no more than 6.0 m at the kerb excluding splays.
- A 0.75 m gap to the side boundary, 7.3 m or more to an intersection, and 3 m to the face of any street tree.
- Half the cost of a first standard crossover paid by the Town, the standard being 3.0 m wide in grey pre mixed concrete.
- Verge parking paving only with approval and only where two cars cannot be parked on site, up to 18 square metres or 10 percent of the verge; small pavers preferred, porous pavers strongly recommended, large slabs not allowed, and nothing within 1.5 m of a tree.
- No artificial grass, and no loose gravel or crushed brick over 5 mm, on the verge.
- Hardstand kept 1.5 m from a street tree's face to AS 4970-2009; damaging a tree on Town land is an offence.

Where Perry Lakes Stadium stood
Perry Lakes Stadium was built in Floreat for the 1962 Games. Its site now holds the WA Athletics Stadium, opened in 2009, and the Bendat Basketball Centre, opened in 2020. Perry Lakes Reserve, also in Floreat, gives the suburb its open green core, and the lakes matter for drainage too, as the next section explains.

Coastal salt, Bold Park and the Perry Lakes water table
Floreat is thought to sit on Spearwood sand over Tamala Limestone. It should drain fast, which suits soakwells, but excavation may hit limestone, so we allow for breaking rock on deeper holes. Near the Perry Lakes the groundwater is typically shallower, and we confirm its depth before a soakwell goes in.
The coast is roughly 3 km west, where salt exposure is usually light to moderate. That is reason enough to choose a salt suited paver or stone grade for pool decks and exposed fronts, and to seal it. The suburb's western edge also meets Bold Park, and parts of Floreat may be bushfire prone, so check your address on the DFES map; near a building, paving is a useful non combustible surface compared with mulch or timber decking.
City Beach, Wembley Downs and neighbours
City Beach is on the coast side of Floreat and Wembley Downs and Churchlands are to the north, with Wembley and Jolimont to the east. They are all covered by arrangement; see areas we service.
