Riverton paving by arrangement, about 26 km from Landsdale
Looking for paving in Riverton? IBP Paving is based in Landsdale, about 26 km to the north, so Riverton sits well outside our everyday area. We take work here by arrangement and ask for the job details first, ideally photos, rough measurements and a short description, so we can say honestly whether and when we can fit it in. The work is the same as anywhere we go: brick and stone driveways, paths and patios, relays of tired paving, and soakwells sized to the City of Canning's rules. Over 20 years in the trade sits behind it, and every job carries a lifetime workmanship warranty.
Adenia Road Park and the river edge
Part of Riverton's north eastern boundary is the Canning River, and along it lies Adenia Road Park. It belongs to the Canning River Regional Park and holds Adenia Park Lagoon, with lookouts near the old Riverton Bridge. Two things follow for paving. The ground near the lagoon and river is likely to be lower and wetter than the rest of the suburb, which affects drainage design. And the park keeps a strip of bushland, so homes along that edge may fall within a bushfire prone area. Where a house faces the bush we suggest brick or stone paving right up to the walls rather than mulch or timber decking, so the ground beside the building has little to burn.
Stormwater, crossovers and verges in the City of Canning
Riverton is in the City of Canning, which wants an approved stormwater drainage plan for every development. The City also says most lots in Canning are suited to getting rid of stormwater on site through soakwells, and that is what we design for. How large those soakwells must be depends on whether the lot has an overland flow path.
An overland flow path means at least 300 mm of height between road level and lot level. With one, the lot is designed for a 1 in 20 year ARI storm and the soakwell volume is the impervious area multiplied by 0.0150, using the whole lot area where the lot is under 300 square metres. With no overland flow path, the design storm becomes 1 in 100 year ARI and the plan must come from a certified engineer.
As an example, a home with 180 square metres of roof and 70 square metres of driveway and paths has 250 square metres of hard surface, which at 0.0150 calls for 3.75 cubic metres of soakwell. For the crossover, the City accepts brick paving, grey concrete or exposed aggregate but not liquid limestone, and approval must be in place before work starts. On the verge, any paving needs the City's written approval first, may cover no more than 33 percent of the verge including footpath and crossover, and cannot come within 2 m of an existing tree trunk. Our Perth soakwell requirements page sets the Canning rules beside other councils.

Grey sand and the Canning River flats
Most of Riverton is likely to sit on Bassendean sand, the pale grey sand found across much of Perth's coastal plain. It drains fast, which suits soakwells, but it shifts when loose and dry, so we compact it in layers under any driveway and add crushed limestone where cars will run. Toward the river flats and the lagoon the water table tends to be shallower, and in winter it can rise close to where a deep soakwell would sit. On those lots we check the ground before settling on depth, often swap one deep unit for two shallow ones, and add grated drains and falls that carry water away from the house. Riverton is roughly 14 km from the ocean, so salt spray is unlikely to matter and pavers can be chosen for looks and wear.
Long settled streets, older owners and young families
Riverton began with a subdivision in 1917, and many of its streets are long settled. The suburb has many retired and older residents, with younger families now moving in. Both groups often need the same first job: a full replacement of a mature driveway whose base has given way, or a relay where the pavers themselves are still sound. For older owners, level garden paths wide enough for a walking frame, with flush joins and gentle falls in place of steps, are worth considering. Where roots have pushed pavers up, we deal with the tree root cause before relaying so the problem does not return.
Parkwood and Ferndale, Riverton's neighbours, do not have pages of their own on this site; we quote them on the same terms.
